PRIVATE YOGA · KATONAH, NEW YORK
The only Westchester
studio dedicated
to private yoga
A personal yoga practice, guided by how you feel.
One-on-one with Celia Hirsch.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF YOGA EXPERIENCE
I begin every session by asking “how do you feel?.” It’s our home base and starting point.
The one-on-one experience gives me the opportunity to spot the patterns, misalignments, and obstructions that could be standing in the way of a fulfilling yoga practice.
YOU ARE MY STUDENT IF…

Some group classes can be quite competitive, which leaves the student feeling that they need to keep up with the rest of the class. In a personalized setting the only competition is with yourself. The practice is curated to match your needs. If your body is unable to achieve a pose or sequence I modify it, if basics are missing I add them, if you’re ready to move ahead I give you the tools.
-
The difference between yoga and other physical disciplines is the full spectrum nature of the teachings – there’s the poses, the breathing and the mind/body component. Each one of those facets are on a learning curve and have to be broken down slowly and with care. I meet you where you are rather than you measuring up to my standards.

Most people are unaware that yoga, at its inception, was primarily used as a therapeutic tool. Luckily our modern medical professionals appreciate its healing potential. The pain, stress and physical restrictions that come with injuries and medical conditions can keep you on the sidelines. A gentle and intentional approach with or around the affected area can bring you back to full participation in your life.
-
A common misconception is that yoga is only for flexible people but the opposite is true. Increasing range of motion slowly and methodically is where the magic happens. I teach you how to love your edges and how to go beyond them using breath and attention. Satisfaction comes when limitations are overcome.
-
The ancient teachings, which yoga is based on, can have a very positive impact on our lives. It’s my responsibility to find the words that speak to my students rather than leaving questions unanswered. We are a doing culture so I encourage students to think less about making things happen and more about allowing them to happen. This is how the lessons on the mat seep into your everyday life.

As a longtime yoga student, I've had the gift of watching Celia evolve as a teacher marked by a generosity of spirit. Among the things I love most about her is her continued exploration and understanding of yoga in all its nuance, which she integrates beautifully into her own practice and her teaching.

MEET CELIA HIRSCH
I view yoga
as self-study.
When I walked into my first yoga class in 1995, I had a sense that yoga was endless. Here I am, 31 years later, and I know it’s true.
My mission is to use plain language, anatomy, and common sense to bring clarity to the practice. It is a privilege for me to teach what I love.
“Nothing happens in a vacuum, everything happens in relationship.”
A PRACTICE THAT BEGINS WITH YOU.
